| Objective |
To
develop a possession pattern resulting on an infiltration at the
opponent's defense using THE DIAGONAL MOVEMENT.
|
| Format |
Set
up on 3/4's of a futsal court.
Two teams of players.
Goalie plus 4 field players per team.
One ball.
|
| Execution |
Team
in possession of the ball is in a 3 - 1 formation.
Central defender, two wing players and a target.
Central defender who is in possession of the ball and at the center of
the court will start the pattern by passing the ball to the wing
player.
As the pass is made, wing player on the opposite flank should run
forward on his flank to bring his marker with him. If this particular
marker is watching/following the ball, winger can receive a pass on his
back in condition to shoot at goal.
As the ball is passed back to the central defender, central defender
should look for the opposite winger for the pass and so on...
Note that target player is deep on the other team's defense and has his
back to the goal. In addition, target player moves to the side of the
ball bringing his marker with him.
Central defender waits for the right moment to loose his marker and
make The Diagonal run.
As central defender feels the moment has arrived, he will signal his
teammates to get ready.
Central defender will then pass the ball to one of the flank players,
run forward as if he were going to receive the ball behind his marker
and bump, changing both direction and speed towards the diagonal and
opposite to the winger in possession of the ball.
Winger who has possession of the ball will make a high pass to central
defender who is now on the top of the box near the far post.
As the pass is made by the winger, target player should move towards
the opposite goal post. Central defender could control the ball and
shoot at goal, control and drive the ball on the far post and towards
the target player, first time at the far post or keep possession and
pass the ball back to his defense. |
| Duration |
Every
practice - until coach is happy!
|
| Coaching Points |
Players should be very skilled.
Wing player, when in possession of the ball should be prepared to
take on his marker of play a give-n-go with the target or central
defender, if his marker attempts to steal the ball.
It is crucial that winger on the opposite side of the ball attempts
to make runs, just to feel if his marker will stay with him or is
watching ball.
If his marker is watching ball, he should receive a pass from
opposite winger or central defender behind his marker's back and in
condition to shoot at goal.
Again. practice, practice, practice. - After the diagonal pass is
made, wing players should protect the center of the field to avoid a
possible counter attack if the ball is intercepted.
Central defender SHOULD ONLY MAKE HIS DIAGONAL RUN when he feels he
will be highly successful in receiving the diagonal pass.
Practice this pattern using shadowing first, so players really
understand and get confident.
Great stuff!
